In the second-season opener, Carly and Sam both develop a crush on Freddie's pal Shane. They compete for his affections, deciding that whoever kisses him first gets to go out with him. As the rivalry heats up, their friendship begins to suffer.

Trainor co-stars as Carly's big brother Spencer. This season is the first to have a major plot twist, as it sees Sam and Freddie sharing their first kiss, just to avoid the frustration of not having a first kiss. This is followed by them becoming somewhat closer; i. e.: finishing each other's sentences and sharing same interests, possibly due to some after-effects, including awkwardness, from the kiss.
